Location: Asti Hills, Monferrato, Piedmont
Grape: 100% Barbera
Vineyard: Hillside vineyards at 1,000 to 1,300 feet of altitude
Soils: Clay-limestone with sandy areas
Harvest: The 2023 vintage in Piedmont was hot, dry, and challenging, with prolonged drought and heat, reducing yields but still producing generally good quality fruit. Harvest ranged from mid-September to early October depending on site and altitude. Grapes are hand picked and laid in small cases of 5kg for about 5-6 weeks in a dry, temperature controlled room, to concentrate sugars and flavors.
Winemaking: Once the grapes are optimally dried, they are fermented in stainless steel tanks at 78-86 C for about 2 weeks.
Tasting notes: Ripe and expressive, with notes of blackberry, dried plum and spices with a rich mouthfeel and robust structure.
Pairing: Ideal for rich meals like roasted meats, hearty ragu pasta or risotto. Serve at 60 to 64°F.
