VOLCANO SOUL
Pronounced: fron-teh-SHE-arah

Frontesciara is more than a winery. It is a conversation between human ambition and volcanic force — a story written in partnership with a historic Sicilian estate, rooted in the dark soils at the foot of Mount Etna.

Here, the landscape is not merely a setting — it is a protagonist. Every vine and every bottle bears its mark. In the local Sicilian dialect, ‘sciara’ means lava flow: the black, jagged scars left by the volcano’s fiery breath.

Our ‘sciara’ is the lava flow of 1981, one of Etna’s most dramatic modern eruptions. That year, molten rock surged from the volcano’s northern flank, racing toward the town of Randazzo. Only a few kilometers away. sheer fortune spared the town. The lava tore through forests, pastures, and ancient farmland — burying the past and, paradoxically, sowing the seeds of what was to come.

Our three vineyards lie in these volcanic fields in the districts of Contrada Alboretto Chiuse del Signore, in the municipality of Linguaglossa, and in Contrada Dafara Galluzzo and Contrada Moscamento, in Rovittello, a hamlet in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia.
