The ancient Otuwhero River gives our wine its name, and is fed by melting snows from surrounding mountain peaks. Our wild, wind-swept Otuwhero Estate is set at the edge of the Southern Pacific Ocean. The Estate is remote coastal and rugged terroir – this produces distinctively bold, ripe fruit flavors, and exquisitely expressive wines. The soil found here in the Awatere Valley is alluvial gravels that rise through our silt and clay soils – delivering bold minerality, intensity and ripe opulence to our wines.
Leading the way at OTU Estate, Anna Remond, the exceptional head winemaker. Her vision, talent, and dedication continue to shape the distinctive wines that define the estate. A winemaker for 15 years for one of New Zealand’s largest wineries, Anna headed up the white wine making program and worked vintages in the French regions of Sancerre and Burgundy. As a mentor for the Women in Wine Program, Anna also supports women to develop their Winemaking careers and reach their full potential in Marlborough, here in New Zealand – and continues to forge a leadership path for women in winemaking overall.
