A high-end approach without a high-end price sums up Vinum Cellars in a nutshell. Owners Richard and Chris founded Vinum in 1997 with the goal of seeking out the best possible grapes throughout California. Their long-term relationships with growers—plus a series of tight-lipped NDAs—have allowed them to score luxury-level grapes and deliver them at a remarkable price.
Winemakers Richard Bruno and Chris Condos philosophy is that winemaking begins in the vineyard and thus they value their strong relationships with top California growers in key locations. The duo has long-standing relationships with growers in Napa, Sonoma, Clarksburg, Monterey and Paso Robles.
An environmentally conscious winery, Vinum Cellars works only with sustainable growers to create Eco-Friendly products. The packaging choices are made specifically to minimize their carbon footprint. Some of those features are: Domestically produced light weight, Eco-Series glass; labels and cartons using only non-toxic, water based inks and each of these suppliers recycles 100% of the waste created by manufacturing our packaging.
Their whites are barrel fermented slowly and aged Sur Lies in small French Oak barrels. With their reds, skin contact is optimized by the use of small open top fermentors, hand punch downs and extended maceration before pressing. Their belief in the use of older French Oak barrels allows the varietal fruit of our wines to be expressed. They are committed to experimenting and learning new winemaking methods while preserving an old world approach.
