Grab a Seat and Stay Awhile at Quinta De La Rosa

Niles, IL – February 10th, 2020 - Quinta De La Rosa now offers the full ‘Quinta Experience” with dining and breathtaking views of the Douro River at winery’s restaurant, Cozinha da Clara, followed by a rejuvenating night’s stay perched high above the Douro and under the star-studded Portuguese sky.

Cozinha da Clara was named after Owner Sophia Bergqvist’s grandmother Claire, who was given Quinta de la Rosa as a christening present by her grandmother over 100 years ago. Claire lived in Douro in the 1950-60s when it was still very remote and a five-hour drive to Porto. Claire would send fruit and vegetables by train to Augusto Leite (a famous merceiria, still in existence in Foz) in exchange for cheese, cream and other delicacies.

Claire was famous for her hospitality and generosity as she trained Maria do Conceição to cook a mixture of English, French and Portuguese food inspired by Elizabeth David and Constance Spry. Opening this restaurant in early 2019 in her memory was a way to serve local Portuguese cuisine while including a touch of the family’s heritage with some of Claire’s favorite recipes.

Executive Chef Pedro Cardoso has worked in the Douro for more than 10 years. Using locally-sourced products and vegetables from the estate garden (named “Paradise” by Claire), Pedro has developed many of his recipes from the Tras-os-Montes. Cardoso’s food pairs perfectly with wines from la Rosa as well as other featured nearby Quintas chosen by Winemaker Jorge Moreira.

After enjoying the views paired with some of Claire’s favorites at Cozinha da Clara, you can stay the night at the Quinta for the full experience.

Guests have been staying at the Quinta for more than 20 years, and in 2012 a
substantial redevelopment of the Winery and Accommodations took place. Guests now have the option to choose between staying in the original 100-year-old Quinta house or stay in the Quinta’s newly designed accommodations. The rooms have views of the Douro, swimming pool access and are television and phone-free. (However, there is still internet for communication purposes.) The rooms blend modern and antique furniture, and are each named after a Bergqvist family member capturing the spirit of the place. The full Quinta De La Rosa experience is here and waiting for you.
